Depends on the pain: Options fo treatment involve conservative shoe modification, padding, cortisone or alcohol injections, radiofrequency/cryosurgery or procedural treatment like excision.

Maybe needed: Neuromas are inflammation and/or damage to the nerve. If you treat the problem early, you have a better chance for success. Cortisone injections, nsaids, good shoes and supports can sometimes help. If your symptoms have been present for greater than 6 months, then conservative care is not as successful. Usually, surgical removal is the definitive treatment for chronic problems. Dr l.

Probably not...: What will help is a metatarsal raise pad. It can be incorporated into an orthotic, but i would just buy them separately and try them first. It is much less expensive this way and often works wonders. http://www.hapad.com/products/metatarsal-arch-pads.html or you could just try a neuroma pad... http://www.hapad.com/products/neuroma-pad.html.

Neuroma surgery: Surgery would be indicated if you are still having pain and disability after all conservative therapy has failed. Before you contemplate an open surgical procedure, i advocate a procedure called radiofrequency ablation. I find that it is very successful.
