More information: Filamentary keratitis is most commonly due to dry eye syndrome but can result from a number of corneal diseases. Mucous filaments form and can cause pain. Treatment includes removing the filaments and using copious amounts of artificial tears. A medication called mucomyst (acetylcysteine) may also help. A bandage contact lens may also help.
