A member asked:

I have mono. could this be complicated by a ruptured spleen?

Yes: The spleen often becomes enlarged because of the virus that causes mono. An enlarged spleen is more likely to rupture if you are struck in the abdomen. That's why athletes can't play contact sports with mono.

Yes, good question: Mononucleosis can cause enlarged and engorged spleen, which is more prone to rupture with any blunt injury. Rarely, it can rupture spontaneously. So don't engage in any contact sports or any activity that might cause any injury. It does get smaller as you overcome your illness.
