Approx. 9 years old: Around age 9, wisdom teeth start to form inside the bone of the upper and lower jaws (maxilla and mandible.) .The jaw have a lot more growing to do, so they are not yet at their full density.

Minus 3 years: Most teeth start to form under the gums in the jawbone about three years before they erupt. The crowns form first and then the roots. If a dentist sees problems with the position of a forming wisdom tooth this is why he might recommend early extraction. Wisdom teeth are much easier to remove before the root is fully formed. They are. Usually fully formed around the age of 18.

Are 7-9: Much earlier than eruption. Your dentist can follow development using xrays. Mid-teens, have wisdom teeth evaluated by a board certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon.
