A few things: Great doctor to visit. Usually the orthodontist is a fun and friendly office. A full examination of the face, jaws, teeth an bite will be done alon with x-rays. Impressions of the mouth will also be taken. Very quick and easy. After this the orthodontist will offer a treatment plan.

Relaxed: At an initial consultation they will review your medical history, take x-rays, make impressions (to make a model of your teeth so they can make accurate measurements of your jaws and teeth). If there is active dental disease (e.g. Gum disease, cavities), they will likely refer you to a general dentist for treatment prior to beginning any orthodontics.

Chief complaint: The most important question that needs to be asked is what is you chief complaint. The orthodontist would want to know what motivated you to seek a consultation.

X-rays and consult: Usually, in an initial consult, the orthodontist will simply examine your teeth and bite. They will ask you what you hope to achieve through treatment. Sometimes we take x-rays and photos during this exam, although it is not neccessary. They can then discuss treatment options and pricing.

Good for you: At an initial Orthodontic Examination (usually free) the Specialist will examine you and make general treatment recommendations. If treatment is indicated Orthodontist will do extensive head and neck intra-oral and extra-oral examination, jaw function assessment, study models, dental and skull x-rays, facial and dental photographs. May also order other tests if indicated. Tests help direct Rx.
