See below: If you have an oral infection you will likely need either a root canal and crown or an extraction. The antibiotics will take a couple days to start kicking in and yo may still be uncomfortable for a couple days so usually i give some pain killers as well. 7 days is not an abnormal amount i usually do 7 or 10 depending on different things. If you are concerned you should ask your provider.

Oral infection: The round of antibiotic you mentioned should be sufficient. This assumes the organism is suseptible to the chosen antibiotic. However, if the infection is from a resistant bug then it may be necessary to change antibiotic or try a combination of medications. Medicine is finding more and more drug resistent germs, thus greater caution is now being used when prescribing antibiotics.

How bad is it?: Depends how bad is the infection, usually seven days is enough.

Maybe: Seven days is a typical regimen for the treatment of an infection in your jaw. Be sure to finish all the antibiotic, even if you start feeling better. The drug must work for its allotted time period to be effective. If you stop the antibiotic too soon, the infection may recur and you could get into serious trouble. If, after 7 days, you still don't feel right, go back to the dentist for treatment.
