Generally No: Oral cancer usually comes from chemical stimulation, usually by alcohol and tobacco. Immune suppression is another factor in oral cancer. Tongue piercing can lead to fractured teeth and loss of gum tissue due to pressure from the ball or barbell.

Not that, but.......: You won't get cancer from tongue piercings. However, you might get infections and you may also chip your teeth, not to mention accidental lacerations. Finally, the tongue is very vascular and you run the risk of excessive bleeding, both at the time of piercing and with accidental injuries.

Oral cancer is: On the rise world wide. Chronic irritation, over time, is a known factor in cancer development. Alcohol and tobacco are the major culprits! viruses are also known to be causative for oral cancer. Hpv (human papilloma virus) is the "bad guy" here. Tongue piercing causes chronic irritation & you run other non cancer risks with tongue piercing. Just don't do it, simple!
