AAFPRS: Facial plastic surgery is plastic surgery. There are some basic overlaps between these specialties but dermatologists do not perform nasal surgery, face lifts, eyelid and eyebrow surgery, trauma care, cleft lip and palate surgery, etc. Trust your face to a facial plastic surgeon - go to the american academy of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery (aafprs) for more details.

Plastic surgery!: May dermatologists are preforming plastic surgery, but facial plastic surgery is surgery. Dermatologists are not trained and are not certified as surgeons, they are trained as internists will with instruction in basic wound care and minor surgery. Plastic and facial plastic surgeon are trained as surgeons with 7-8 year of surgical training. You must choose the right doctor for you.

Surgery is surgery: The "core" physicians that perform plastic surgery of the face are plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons (ENT) and some dermatologists with special training in dermatologic surgery. There are many other physicians and non-physicians that profess expertise in these areas but may not have the necessary training to assure safe, reliable results. Do your homework!

Could be both : Facial plastic surgery is a general term that can imply either surgical or non-surgical which can be either plastic surgery or dermatology. It depends on which procedure in facial plastic surgery you are referring to. Even though these are separate specialties, they do overlap with regards to aesthetic medicine.

Plastic surgery: Facial plastic surgery encompasses any surgical procedure done on the face (and neck). Both facial plastic surgeons (trained exclusively on face and neck procedures) and plastic surgeons who do breast and body work can perform these procedures. Dermatology is not a surgical subspecialty however there are MOHs surgeons who do surgical procedures for skin cancer only, usually in the office.
