No treatment: Hairy tongue is a benign condition by excessive growth of the taste buds. Some folks think that irritants like tobacco smoke can worsen it. It is harmless and is there is no proven effective treatment. Try not to worry about it.

Tongue Scraper: White hairy tongue is caused by the overgrowth of filiform papillae due to poor oral hygiene, some medications, excessive use of coffee, tea or tobacco products. Treatment consists of brushing the tongue with a toothbrush or the use of a tongue scraper. Ask your dental hygienist for instructions.
