Not usually treated: It is a chronic condition the typically manifest itself under certain circumstances such as eating hot, spicy, acidic or salty foods and stress or hormonal changes. Treatment is typically not necessary unless you have severe pain then a dentist can prescribe you a mouthwash or paste to use.

It isn't: While geographic tongue may not look very pretty, it is a benign condition without any need for treatment. In some unusual cases, where pain is involved, your dentist can prescribe certain medications that will offer some relief. In those cases, you should avoid eating spicy & hot foods or whatever does seem to produce more discomfort. Finally, make sure what you have is geographic tongue.
