A member asked:

What are the chances of survival for someone with melanoma?

It depends: Early stage melanoma is frequently cured with surgery called a wide local excision. Late stage cancer (involving other organs such as the lungs or liver or brain) is not generally curable.

Depends on stage: Not all cancers are alike, and neither are different melanomas. The survival from melanoma depends on the stage, which is based tumor thickness, ulceration, mitotic rate, lymph node involvement and presence of distant metastases.

Depends on stage: You need to have complete staging information. Once you have that, you can plug the information into this tool which gives very good prognostic information http://www.Melanomaprognosis.Org.
