Lobular panniculitis: The panniculus is the mass of skin and fat that hangs off the lower abdomen. The term for an infected or chronically irritated panniculus is panniculitis. Lobular panniculitis is one type of histology seen under the microscope. The other is septal panniculitis, and both can be with or without vasculitis. Mild panniculitis is treated with local skin care, more severe with panniculectomy, tummy tuck.
