It is your choice: Who is present for an exam is the choice of the patient, and should be discussed with your caregiver as well. As a doctor, i often prefer to have a chance to talk to the patient by herself so i may inquire about her social situation and any additional risks that she may not feel comfotable discussing with her boyfriend or significant other in the room.
