Whats your diagnosis: Ask the doctor to give you a diagnosis of your back condition no one can answer your question unless we understand the diagnosis which explains the anatomy involved and treatment options . The disc is the water contain layer in between 2 bones with time the disc like layers of and onion can start to rip or tear weakling the disc . The disc can bulge , herniate or a piece can extrude

See a specialist: I disagree that there is no cure for nerve compression. You may require surgery, an injection, pt, etc. . . Depending on severity of pain and associated symptoms (numbness, s tingling, weakness, bowel/bladder problems). As far as prevention, that depends on treatments to restoring normal anatomical alignment and posturing, your daily activities, and other factors that exacerbate your pain.
