Possibly: If the abscess has been treated and antibiotics were prescribed, salt water rinses can help.

Not always: If the abscess is in the gums, your dentist may suggest that you rinse with warm salt water a few times a day for several days. However, if the abscess is inside the tooth the dentist visit for complete treatment is crucial and salt water won't be helpful. Remember, the abscess will not be cured unless the cause is eliminated.
