How effective and painful is a uterine embolization of the fibroids?

Very effective : Uterine artery embolization (uae) is a very effective, non-surgical, outpatient procedure to treat symptoms from fibroids. Typical recovery 4-5 days (out of work 1week). A small percentage of patients have a rough go with pain, most find it manageable with oral meds. Most important to find an experienced ir with uae and one that has a specific pain regimen in place.

Varies: Some patients have minimal pain, others can have significant pain similar to child birth. Fortunately this can be controlled with minimal discomfort using IV pain meds and oral pain meds when the patient is discharged from the hospital. The worst pain in within the first 12 hrs after the procedure.
