That's an easy one!: Thie riskiest plastic surgery procedure is one done by a non plastic surgeon or someone who doesn't have the skill, experience and understanding of the procedure or the risks involved. A great plastic surgeon has great training, great hands, knows how to listen, has a great artistic eye and has the skill and experience to back it up. Do your homework and minimize any risks. Be well, dr. Fred.

Easy answer #2: Dr. Coville has it right, but not enough space to finish his answer. Everything he said is true, but it also takes a motivated, healthy, and compliant patient. Patients who are still overweight, smoke, or lay in the sun or tanning bed do not do as well with surgery as patients who are at or close to their ideal weight, and who take care of themselves and follow post-op instructions carefully!

Inherent risks: There are inherent risks with any surgical procedure, cosmetic or not. The patient should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations and open communication with his/her surgeon.

Beware cheap surgery: I try to discourage my patients from price shopping for surgery. While i understand that cost is a factor, i believe it is much more important that you find a surgeon who you trust and are comfortable with after meeting with them. I also believe that you should make sure the surgeon is board certified in plastic surgery and not some other "cosmetic" board that does not meet the same standards.

Plastic surgery: All surgery has risk. Healthy people undergo surgery everyday. The risk associated with each procedure is relative to what is being done. I spend a great deal of time taking. Care if cancer patients as a plastic surgeon. Many of these patients are at increased risk of wound problems because they have received radiation treatments. Radiation helps destroy tumor cells but delays wound healing.
