Most common: Although it depends on what type of surgery you are interested in most common complications are fairly universal. Risk of anesthesia, hematoma, seroma, poor healing or tissue loss (especially in smokers or obese patients), infection risks are usually small, unfavorable scarring, asymmetry, changes in sensation, need for further surgery.

Varies by procedure: Hard to answer so broad a question as each procedure has different risks. The big one, though, that reaches across all of them is disappointment. Do your homework in terms of who will do the procedure, don't let anyone talk you into anything and think about how you will feel if it is "only" 90% successful. Don't borrow money to pay for it. Good luck!

Surgery risks: There are risks to every surgical procedure regardless of type. There is always an anesthetic risk, but this is minimal in healthy people undergoing elective surgery. Surgery has risks of infection and bleeding, but once again minimal. There is also risks of blood clots, asymmetry and irregularities. Plastic surgery also has risks on how your body heals, which sometimes can't be controlled.

Risk-Plastic Surgery: The risks of cosmetic plastic surgery are the same as any other surgery: infection, hematoma, wound breakdown, hypertrophic/unacceptable scarring, bleeding, as well as the potential cosmetic problems such as overcorrection, undercorrection, contour irregularity, inability to achieve a specific cosmetic result, etc.
