A member asked:

Why can antidepressants for fibromyalgia not be the sole form of therapy?

It is not depression: Fibromyalgia is not depression, so this is why antidepressants alone do not treat fibromyalgia. They can provide some relief but rarely alone can they provide enough relief. Usually a combination of therapies lead to the most successful treatment of fibromyalgia.

Yes possibly: There are two new drugs for the treatment of fibromyalgia that also seem to help depression-savella and cymbalta. If these work for you, they can be the sole therapy. If not, consider adding lyrica (pregabalin).

Therapy: Psychotherapy in addition to meds is good for the anxiety and depression that comes with battling fibromyalgia.
