Yes.... but: Some docs give sprays or liquids with Lidocaine to help numb up the throat after taking out tonsils. I take out a fair share of tonsils. The sad fact is it will hurt no matter what. I've never found sprays make a huge difference, and the menthol in cough drops definitely doesn't help. Best advice: drink lots of liquids and take your prescribed pain medicine. It does get better. That's a promise.

Ask surgeon: If your tonsils were taken out within the last week, i would ask your family doctor or the surgeon who did the surgery. Your home care instructions should list a number you can call. If it has been longer than a week and you are still having pain - you need to contact the doctor. If it has been longer than one month, you should be fine using the cough drops and spray.
