Size, location...: A furuncle generally refers to a collection of pus or boil that stems from a blocked hair follicle and is often caused by a skin bacteria, staph. Carbunlce generally refers to a larger pus-filled mass or boil and may refer to other area of body than the furunlce. They are both type of boils.
