Black gum area : If the color of your 6 year old's gum is an unusual color and you feel that it is related to the recent surgical procedure, you should return to the treating dentist for a reevaluation. Sometimes what appears to be discoloration is a form of pigmentation. Either way, a visit to your dentist for a definitive diagnosis is appropriate.

Amalgam tattoo: If the teeth had amalgam fillings in them then small pieces of the amalgam may have been dislodged and the gums healed over it leaving an "amalgam tattoo" in the area.

Black gums: It's not uncommon to have black gums after a tooth extraction. It could be because of a yeast candida issue or a staining issue from foods.
