No: Usually the piercing does not get in the way of a dental cleaning. I assume the piercing is small in size. However, be careful as tongue piercings can fracture teeth.

It is recommended: That they be removed so the tissues can be properly examined. Also the piercings might interfere with the taking of x-rays. Best to take them off.
