Reputation: Ask your friends who have had plastic surgery who they recommend. If your friends recommend a particular plastic surgeon because they are happy, that is probably a good sign. Also, make sure that the plastic surgeon is a plastic surgeon and not some 'cosmetic surgeon' . Look at where they went to do their residency and fellowship training.

Experience: Experience really does matter and it starts with training. This means a proper plastic surgery residency as well as the maturity that comes from doing many plastic surgery procedures well. Look at their results. You must also feel good about how you are treated. Compassion, empathy, artistry and skill are the things to look for. Be well, dr. Fred.

Research: I would suggest starting with the american society and/or board of plastic surgery to obtain a list of well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. Arrange consultations and ask to see his/her before-and-after pictures and to potentially meet with patients who have had similar surgery. Make sure he works with well experienced anesthesia providers and in a fully accredited surgery facility.

Start with your existing physicians and ask for referrals and then use local hospitals or medical societies as week as national organizations such as the american society of plastic surgeons at plasticsurgery.Org.
