Can a dental filling cause your teeth to feel sensitive afterwards?

Yes, but...: Usually for a short time only. Like a cut in the skin, it is normal to be tender for a couple of days until it heals. Deep fillings and cracked teeth can be highly sensitive (esp. To ice/cold) and may need further care. Sensitivity that lasts should be evaluated by your dentist. Root canal therapy can alleviate painful pulpal problems.

YES: It would depend on the size of the decay, your bite, the material that was used and other factors as well.

Sensativity fillings: New dental fillings can be sensative at first, but this improves as your tooth heals after having been cut. If the sensativity does not go away with time your dentist needs to check the tooth for a possible high spot on the new filling or for a failing pulp that may require a root canal to bring relief.

Sometimes: If it is severe and / or spontaneous -- notify your dentist and plan to see them for follow-up. Mild sensitivity can be normal if the decay / breakdown was deep and near the puplal (living nerve) tissue. If not sure, call your dentist. Often it is inflammation , and a few doses of Ibuprofen will settle things down. Good luck.
