Yes: Anytime you have questions concerning your health you should consult your pcp. In this situation it does sound surgery may be required.

PCP or surgeon: If you're sure the problem is gallstones, see a general surgeon for evaluation. Gallbladder now can often be removed thru small incision so recovery time is much quicker. Operation is called laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Pcp's usually don't do that type of surgery, so s/he'd just refer you to surgeon. If diagnosis not certain, see pcp for evaluation.

Yes: I assume that you already know that you have gallstones. It appears that your gallstones are symptomatic and thus you should be considered a candidate for laparoscopic cholecystectomy . You should see a surgeon before the condition worsens or becomes complicated.
