Lymph gland swelling: Kids routinely get lymph gland swelling after bug bites, throat drainage or after viral illnesses or some vaccines. We expect that swelling to gradually peak & subside in 3-4 weeks. The time you were quoted is realistic.I might even wait longer if a the swelling was on its way down. You don't want to put a kid through surgery on a self healing issue. In adults, the approach may be different.

Other symptoms?: In the absence of other concerning symptoms (such as unexplained fevers, night sweats, weight loss, easy bruising, difficulty breathing when lying down, appearance of new lymph nodes (swollen glands) in a different area of the body), this time frame sounds reasonable. At the end of 1 month, if they hadn't gotten bigger, could even wait a bit longer if you had close follow-up.
