Medical first: Most people with this start out on medical therapy (pain meds and muscle relaxants) and physical therapy. Acupuncture and chiropractic treatments may help some. Surgery as a last resort usually.

Work Up: The first step is a comprehensive history and physical with correlation of studies and how your life is impacted by back pain or radicular symptoms/sciatica/leg pain. Management and treatment range from the very conservative such as anti-inflammatories and physical therapy to epidurals and other interventions. Surgery is usually a last resort.
