Best performed by a well experienced general surgeon who has done many of these procedures. Risks of bleeding, infection, poor healing, pancreas leak, diabetes, etc.

Indications: Whipple procedure( pancreatico- duodenectomy), si done for patients felt to be potentially curative by this resection. For cancers in the head of the pancreas, or duodenum it offers the best chance for cure or long term survival. It is unusual to be used in treatment of colon cancer.
