Hereditary sometimes: Pancreatic cancer runs in some families. Relatives of patients with pancreas cancer have an increased risk for developing pancreas cancer themselves. Colon cancer is known to run in families. Can consult physician (geneticist) for counseling as far as testing for possible genetic marker and frequency of colonoscopy for early detection of colon cancer.

A few things: I am very sorry to hear about your loss and your fathers health. In terms of risks, you should be aware that you need to have your colonoscopy 10 years before your mom was diagnosed (assuming it was 55 then yours would be at 45) --unless you have a change in bowel habits, or if you have rectal bleeding etc.
