There are many : Analgesics that can be used. It is best not to self medicate and consult with your dentist to determine the best course of treatment. Often antibiotics are needed to control the infection that may be causing the pain.

Identify the cause.: Once you know the source of the pain, you can treat it appropriately. This might include medication, therapy & exercises, treatment/procedures, and follow-on care as needed. Your dentist can give you specifics for your situation.

Other options: Darvocet is no longer an option as it has been taken off the market. There are a number of other over the counter analgesics that are available that you can try. However, the best thing for you to use would be your dentist who can diagnose your problem and provide you with options to treat and/or resolve your pain.

Advice: It's best to see a dentist asap to treat the cause of the pain. In the meantime there's not much that you can do for dental pain other than taking what you would normally take for a headache (advil, tylenol, (acetaminophen) etc). If you are currently seeing a dentist for treatment, call your dentist.

Prescription meds: There are stronger pain meds, but they must be prescribed by an MD or dentist. Make an appointment with your dentist to solve the problem.

Your telephone: Most common cause of Dental pain is infection. Pain killers will not cure the infection, only dull the pain as the infection spreads to brain, heart, liver, etc. Once cause of the pain has been identified the appropriate treatment can be administered.
