Depends: Surgery for deviated septum is typically a straight-forward procedure. Following the surgery, the surgeon may or may not place a packing inside the nose. With the packing in place, the patient may experience significant discomfort from the pressure and the nasal obstruction. Without the packing in place, the patient would have a much easier recovery.

Septoplasty: Recovery from septoplasty takes several weeks. there may be some persistent swelling in the nose. But most patients experience improvement in their breathing after surgery.
