6 months: Hand sprains come in different varieties. For the most part, a sprain of the hand or finger will take 6-8 months to heal and to feel "normal." until then, you may experience aching or soreness with use of the hand. Seek your physician to obtain hand x-rays to rule out any joint injuries or fractures.

Depends...: On where it is and how severe the sprain is. The small joints in the fingers are especially slow to heal. They may be stiff, swollen, and sore for up to a year--and the swelling may never completely resolve.
