Antacids: If i understand your question correctly, it sounds like your doctor feels you have something called gastro-esophageal reflux disease (gerd). Plain english translation - a type of heartburn. Antacids (maalox or mylanta) are a reasonable start. You may also try h2 antagonists such as zantac, (ranitidine) axid. Finally, the strongest otc product for this is Prilosec otc.
