Yes: Incision and drainage of an abscess can alleviate the acute problem with pain and swelling, however the actual cause of the abscess also has to be identified and treated to resolve the problem.

See your dentist: The best way to remove a gum abscess is to visit your denist. I do not recommend trying anything on your own and it is likely to cause more damage. Your dentist can determine and treat the cause of the abscess properly.
