Depends on cause: Recurrent pneumonia should be investigated and cause of the scarring determined to ensure that there is no ongoing inflammation in the involved segment of the lung. Treatment depends on underlying cause that is identified. If there is persistent infection in the lungs, it can lead to development of bronchiectasis over time.
