Depends -: Mouthwashes can be used for a variety of reasons. Most commonly patients use a mouthwash for "bad breath". A rinse that kills germs such a listorine is good but stings. Breath rx is also recommended and stings less. Other mouth washes are used to reduce decay, add fluoride, desensitize etc. It is best to see your dentist, diagnose your needs and use the appropriate rinse.

No alcohol: I really like listerine for its antibacterial properties and it helps fight gingivitis or gum disease. But it does sting a little. I would recommend it if you can get past the sting. Some milder ones are crest prohealth, act, plax, and several others. I think listerine makes a milder version without alcohol as well.

Non alcohol: Any non alcohol mouthwash will do the trick, try listerine zero.

Non alcohol: Many of my adult patients actually like the kids mouthwash. I often recommend act for children. It does not burn and leaves a clean and refreshed feeling. It is great for older adults too with dry mouths. If you don't like the kids mouthwash, look for one without alchohol or consider biotene, which is sold in many pharmacies and walmart.
