Yes: So gout is a condition that tends to both recruit more joints with each flare (i.e. 1st flare: big toe, 2nd flare: big toe and knee, etc) and worsens the inflammation that occurs with each flare. This can lead to a destructive arthritis that can render the most affected joints unusable and deformed. In addition, kidney stones can occur with untreated disease. Treatment is simple for 95% of gout pt.

It's VERY important: To not keep getting gout attacks. As dr. Kim pointed out, acute gouty arthritis can become chronic tophacious gouty arthritis, which is extremely debilitating, and 100% unnecessary.
