Yes: In the modern era, patients are exposed to co-pays and other costs associated with health care from which they used to be shielded. If you are asked to undergo an expensive imaging test, i would discuss your reasons for refusing the test with the doctor who ordered the test, and ask to see if there are any alternative ways to make the diagnosis. There usually is!

Yes: However, it is not your doctor I am worried about. My concern is that you don't refuse a test that could be important to your health. First you should ask for less expensive alternatives and how this would change your treatment plan. You might choose to the treatment without an expensive imaging exam. You are the decision maker for your body. No one can do anything without your permission.
