They can: Pancreas transplant is the answer for diabetes but any transplant is a complex process. It depends on donors who are not many; surgical techniques, technology and science of transplantation which is not perfected yet.

They can: But usually reserve for patients who have frequent severe low sugars, other severe complications because risk of pancreas transplants-death, side effects of meds to prevent rejection- are usually worse than diabetes state that is controlled by patient with diet, meds.

Pancreas transplant: There are two common indications for a pancreas transplant: 1. A commitment to lifelong immunosuppresion for another organ transplant in a type 1 diabetic (usually a kidney for diabetic nephrology, but liver and lung have been done as well) or 2. Very poorly controlled type 1 diabetes despite optimized medical care. This usually requires documented episodes of hypoglycemia unawareness.
