A member asked:

So tell me about synkinesis and bell's palsy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I will :): Bell's palsy is caused by inflammation of the facial nerve, which supplies the muscles of the face. When the nerve heals, it sprouts new branches, which sometimes can end up going to the wrong muscle. When this occurs it can lead to synkinesis, in which a voluntary contraction of one muscle (like those that make you smile) causes an involuntary contraction in another (like those that shut your eye.
