See a neurologist: Bell's palsy, a peripheral facial paralysis. It usually results from edema due to an inflammatory process and compression of the swollen nerve inside the facial canal or stylomastoid foramen. Although the cause of the edema is undetermined, some researchers believe it is related to the herpes simplex virus.
