A member asked:

When does someone need surgery for chronic back pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rarely: Surgery is indicated if there are symtoms such as loss of bladder and bowel control or weakness or loss of function in the legs. First explore good exercise and rehabilitation and if persistent see a pain doctor who can determine if imaging is appropriate or if certain injections may benefit you such as an epidural, facet blocks or prolotherapy.
