What is the difference between taking vit d and vitamin d3?

D is a general term: Vitamin d comes in two forms, vitamin d3 is made in the skin after stimulation with ultraviolet light from sun shine and vitamin d2 comes from irradiated mushrooms. They both have the same effects but vitamin d3 stays in the blood for a longer time than d2.
