Normal count: A single number on a white count does not give much information. The test looks at a variety of cell elements in the blood & the relationship each component has to the others. A count of 12.8 is pretty normal as far as the number goes, but there can be other parts of the count that are not.

Need more data: A WBC of 12.8 can be due to an infection or inflammation. A complete blood count will tell more information about the WBC in terms of which types of white blood cells are elevated. This number is only slightly elevated and you may need a repeat wbc.
