Annual physical : P vera is not considered an inherited disease-meaning that there are no genes that cause the disease that are passed on from parent to child. It is probably related to aging, and it is not necessarily a terminal diagnosis, but some cases are more severe and require more treatment than others. Annual physicals that include complete blood counts will usually pick up an increase in red cells.
