Panic attack: It sounds like you may have experienced a panic attack, which can occur out of the blue or in the context of an ongoing depression or anxiety disorder. These can also be brought on by various substances like caffeine, amphetamines, etc. If this was your first-ever episode, please see your family doctor for a general checkup; you can see psychiatrist for eval and treatment of this condition.

It may have been just anxiety, but other physical causes need to be evaluated. Blood pressure, kidney function, hormone function, and neurological disorders need to be evaluated. Get a good checkup.
