Neuropathy: You have a nerve that is being irritated. Sometimes, they cause numbness or burning or tingling and sometimes pain can be more severe. If it is starting to occur more frequently, it is time for you to seek treatment. I would recommend a orthopedic or neurology consult.

Nerve compression: Sharp stabbing pain is probably tibial nerve compression. Nerve pain can take your breath away! rest, ice, and seek the opinion of your favorite orthopedist. Other things it can be is a strain, sprain, ligament or tendon injury.
