Elavil (amitriptyline): Substituting high dose of Amitriptyline is not easy, due to withdrawal side-effect if discontinue the high dose. Other alternatives are supplementing with another antidepressant that has sedative effects, augmenting with a mood stabilizer, anti-anxiety medications, etc. Consult with your prescribing doc. To discuss alternatives. Good luck.
