Yes: Glaucoma can result in vision loss and blindness if untreated. If there is no consensus on your diagnosis i would recommend that you see a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist. Your doc should be able to refer you.
Dr. William Dieck
Ophthalmology 38 years experience
Yes-untreated: Untreated glaucoma can lead to severe visual loss and even to total blindness. If you are having difficulty with consensus on a diagnosis you may want to reach out to an eye institiue; ie. Wills, bascom palmer, mayo etc.

Eye exams: Glaucoma is damage to the optic nerve caused by eye pressures that are too high for the particular eye. It is diagnosed by the eye doctor seeing the optic nerve having a special appearance, and then a test called a visual field test shows loss of vision in the outer part of the field. That is why we all should get eye exams starting at about 40 years of age.

Many types: Typically the types are divided into "causes" or the "drain status" thus primary glaucoma vs. Secondary glaucoma (caused by something that is affecting the drain of the eye) or open angle vs. Closed angle glaucoma basically glaucoma can happen at various pressures that is damaging to the individual patient, so there is no pressure cutoff.
